Biolight Therapy
The Deep Dive
What Is BioLight Therapy?
BioLight Therapy is a gentle, noninvasive treatment that uses specific wavelengths of LED light to support the body’s natural healing and restorative processes. Also known as photobiomodulation or LED light therapy, this treatment delivers light energy to the skin and underlying tissues without needles, heat, or ultraviolet radiation.
At Foothills Acupuncture, BioLight Therapy may be used to support pain management, tissue recovery, skin health, and post-treatment healing. It can be provided as a stand-alone therapy or incorporated into acupuncture, microneedling, nano-needling, and other personalized treatment plans.
How Does BioLight Therapy Work?
Different wavelengths of light penetrate the body to different depths. When this light is absorbed by light-sensitive molecules within the cells, it may influence cellular signaling, circulation, and mitochondrial activity.
Mitochondria are responsible for producing much of the energy cells need to function and repair themselves. By supporting cellular activity, BioLight Therapy may encourage healthier tissue function and help create a more favorable environment for the body’s natural healing processes.
The wavelength, intensity, treatment time, and placement of the light are selected according to the area being treated and the patient’s therapeutic goals.
Is BioLight Therapy the Same as Red Light Therapy?
Red light therapy is one form of BioLight Therapy, but the terms are not always completely interchangeable. BioLight systems may use red, blue, near-infrared, or other carefully selected wavelengths of light.
Each wavelength interacts with the skin and tissues differently. Red and near-infrared light are commonly used to support cellular activity, circulation, tissue recovery, and skin rejuvenation. Blue light acts closer to the skin’s surface and may be incorporated into certain skincare and acne-support protocols.
At Foothills Acupuncture, the appropriate light setting is selected according to your individual needs rather than using the same protocol for every patient.
What Are the Benefits of BioLight Therapy?
BioLight Therapy may be incorporated into treatment plans to help:
Support circulation and tissue oxygenation
Encourage normal cellular repair processes
Support the body’s healthy inflammatory response
Ease muscular and joint discomfort
Complement pain-management and injury-recovery treatments
Promote healthier-looking skin
Support collagen and elastin production
Improve the appearance of fine lines and uneven skin texture
Support the skin following microneedling or nano-needling
Promote a more comfortable post-treatment recovery process
Results vary according to the condition being addressed, the wavelength and dosage used, and the individual patient’s response.
How Is BioLight Therapy Used for Pain and Recovery?
BioLight Therapy may be directed over muscles, joints, or other areas of discomfort as part of a comprehensive treatment plan. The light does not physically manipulate the tissues. Instead, it provides a gentle form of stimulation intended to support cellular function, circulation, and the body’s natural recovery response.
At Foothills Acupuncture, BioLight Therapy may be combined with acupuncture, cupping, gua sha, or Tui Na to provide additional support for areas affected by pain, muscular tension, overuse, or physical stress.
BioLight Therapy is an adjunctive treatment and is not intended to replace appropriate medical evaluation or necessary medical care.
How Is BioLight Therapy Used for Skin Rejuvenation?
Red and near-infrared wavelengths may support the cellular processes involved in collagen production, circulation, and tissue renewal. For this reason, BioLight Therapy may be incorporated into treatments intended to improve the appearance, texture, and overall vitality of the skin.
BioLight Therapy may be helpful for people seeking support for:
Fine lines and wrinkles
Uneven skin tone or texture
Dull or tired-looking skin
Mild redness following cosmetic treatments
Acne-prone skin
The appearance of superficial scarring
General skin rejuvenation
Because it does not puncture or remove the surface of the skin, BioLight Therapy can provide a gentle option for patients who want to support their skin without a more intensive procedure.
Why Is BioLight Therapy Used with Microneedling?
Microneedling stimulates the skin’s natural repair response by creating carefully controlled microchannels. BioLight Therapy can then be applied following the procedure to provide additional support during the early stages of skin recovery.
At Foothills Acupuncture, BioLight Therapy is included with our microneedling treatments to help soothe the treated area, support normal repair processes, and complement the collagen-stimulating effects of the procedure.
BioLight Therapy may also be incorporated into nano-needling and other personalized facial-rejuvenation treatments.
What Does BioLight Therapy Feel Like?
BioLight Therapy is comfortable and relaxing for most patients. The treatment does not involve needles, electrical stimulation, or painful heat. You may notice gentle warmth or brightness from the light, but many patients feel very little during the treatment itself.
Protective eyewear may be provided depending on the area being treated and the light settings used. Patients simply relax while the light is positioned over the targeted area for the prescribed amount of time.
There is typically no downtime following BioLight Therapy, and patients can usually return to their normal daily activities immediately afterward.
Is BioLight Therapy Safe?
BioLight Therapy is generally well tolerated when administered appropriately. Because the treatment uses nonionizing LED light, it does not expose the body to ultraviolet radiation.
Before treatment, please let your practitioner know if you have a medical condition that causes light sensitivity, an eye condition, or if you take medications or supplements that may increase sensitivity to light. This allows us to determine whether BioLight Therapy is appropriate for you and select the safest treatment settings.
At Foothills Acupuncture, treatment time, light placement, and intensity are carefully selected and monitored according to the treatment area, your health history, and the therapeutic goals of your care.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
The number and frequency of BioLight Therapy sessions depend on what is being addressed and whether the therapy is being used on its own or alongside another treatment.
Some patients use BioLight Therapy for short-term recovery support, while others receive it as part of a series of treatments for pain management, skin rejuvenation, or an ongoing therapeutic plan. Like acupuncture and many other restorative therapies, its effects may be cumulative, and a series of appropriately spaced treatments may provide greater benefit than a single session.
Your practitioner will recommend a treatment schedule based on your condition, response, and overall goals.
Can BioLight Therapy Be Combined with Other Treatments?
Yes. One of the advantages of BioLight Therapy is that it can be easily integrated with other services offered at Foothills Acupuncture.
Depending on your needs, it may be combined with:
Acupuncture
Microneedling
Nano-needling
Cupping
Gua Sha
Tui Na/Chinese medical massage
Chinese herbal medicine
Personalized lifestyle and recovery recommendations
Combining therapies allows us to address your concerns from multiple angles while creating a treatment plan that remains comfortable, practical, and specific to you.
How Long Has Light Therapy Been Used?
The therapeutic use of light has been explored for more than a century. Physician and scientist Niels Ryberg Finsen received the 1903 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his work using concentrated light in medical treatment.
Modern photobiomodulation developed through later research into low-level lasers and LEDs. As the technology advanced, practitioners gained greater control over wavelength, intensity, treatment duration, and application. Today, photobiomodulation is used in a variety of medical, rehabilitative, and cosmetic settings.

BioLight/LED Therapy — 30 Minutes | $50
Relaxing, noninvasive, and supportive, BioLight/LED therapy uses selected wavelengths of light to complement the skin’s natural renewal processes and other cosmetic or therapeutic treatments. Available wavelengths and settings are selected according to your skin, current concerns, treatment goals, and the device’s intended uses.
Your session is customized to your individual needs, with the light positioned comfortably over the treatment area for focused exposure. No needles are used, and there is typically no downtime.
BioLight/LED Therapy May Be Used For
Supporting the skin following microneedling or Nano-Needling
