Yes. Foothills Acupuncture is a Lakewood acupuncture clinic that accepts insurance. We are currently in-network with Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Anthem, United Health Care and Triwest.

As an additional courtesy, Foothills Acupuncture offers out of network insurance billing, where we will submit directly to your insurance company if your plan is not included in our network. No more hassle dealing with a superbill and having to submit on your own.

Yes. Acupuncture is generally considered a safe treatment when performed by a properly trained and licensed practitioner. Most side effects are mild and temporary, such as minor soreness, bruising, light bleeding, fatigue, or temporary lightheadedness. Serious complications are rare.

At Foothills Acupuncture, our practitioners are state-licensed and nationally board-certified. They have extensive training in anatomy, needle safety, and Clean Needle Technique. We use only sterile, single-use acupuncture needles and follow established safety and infection-control procedures.

Most patients report little to no discomfort during acupuncture. Acupuncture needles are extremely fine—approximately the width of a human hair—and are solid with finely tapered tips. Unlike the thicker, hollow needles used for injections or blood draws, they are designed to gently pass through the skin rather than cut it. As a result, acupuncture feels very different from receiving a shot, and many patients barely notice when the needles are inserted.

At Foothills Acupuncture, many patients report feeling more relaxed or experiencing some reduction in pain, tension, or stress after their first treatment. However, acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine generally produce their greatest benefits through a consistent series of treatments.

The number and frequency of treatments will vary according to your individual health, the nature and severity of your condition, and how long it has been present. Patients with milder or more recent concerns may begin noticing meaningful, lasting improvement within four to six treatments. Chronic, long-standing, or more complex conditions may require 10 or more treatments before lasting changes become apparent.

Because acupuncture has a cumulative effect, more persistent conditions may initially benefit from two or more treatments per week. Even when a condition has not yet fully resolved, many patients report feeling better, calmer, or more relaxed after each appointment. Your practitioner will recommend a treatment schedule based on your needs, response to care, and health goals.
